About the cuvée

Great white wine from BOURGOGNE located in the commune of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. The grape variety is Chardonnay. Our vineyard of Corton-Charlemagne consists of plantings from several different years, ranging from over 50 years old to about 10 years old. The regular plantings allow for a combination of the power of old vines and the finesse of young plants.

The Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne carries historical memories. Corton is a compound meaning 'the courtyard of Othon'. The type cortis designating the enclosure, the farmyard in medieval Latin has become the equivalent of the Gallo-Roman villa to designate an estate whose owner originally belonged to the Frankish aristocracy.

The name of Charlemagne is linked to a famous donation. The church of Aloxe dedicated to Saint Médard was placed under the patronage of the collegiate church of Saulieu to which Charlemagne gave vineyards in 775.

White vinification: we harvest the grapes in small boxes to keep them intact, the pressing is done with a pneumatic press that is more respectful of the grapes. Whole grapes are placed in the press and the pressing lasts two hours. After a 24-hour cold settling, the grape juice is placed in barrels for fermentation, with 30% of new barrels. The aging on lees with stirring lasts until July, and bottling is done after 12 months of aging.

This south-west oriented Grand Cru is planted on silico-calcareous marls in a very steep slope. These shallow soils, made up of crumbly rocks, are quite light, poor, and very stony.

Corton-Charlemagne has the character of the terroir, the flint, due to its location on the rock. The wines are full-bodied and robust with a beautiful golden hue. The fullness of this wine is reached after 5 to 10 years in the cellar, revealing its aromatic riches of honey, roasted almonds with exquisite mineral touches. Serve at 12°C, Corton-Charlemagne pairs well with foie gras, lobster, langoustine, delicate fish, sweetbreads in a casserole, chicken breasts with morels, soft cheeses, and you can serve the oldest ones as an aperitif.

About the estate

Located between Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, in Pernand-Vergelesses, Burgundy, the Rapet estate produces great wines situated around the prestigious hill of Corton.

This label created by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in 2012 certifies agricultural operations with an environmental approach. This means practicing agriculture that is more respectful of the environment around us by adhering to a very rigorous specification.

This certification includes 3 levels of requirements. Our estate obtained validation of the highest level on March 1, 2018, thus we committed to meeting 3 essential aspects:

At the level of biodiversity, we conducted an assessment of our farm listing all elements that promote the diversity of fauna and flora (hedges, woods, walls, grassy strips, trees, flowers, insects, etc.).

We have also sought to optimize fertilization management by analyzing each vineyard plot to provide exactly the amendment it needs. This has allowed us to reduce our fertilizer input by 50% in 2018.

Rationalizing plant protection is the third and final aspect of this certification. We adapt each plant protection product according to the target in order to reduce their use.

We are very proud today to commit to a sustainable viticulture and to offer you wines produced with respect for the environment.
