Flagship appellations
It is the only grape variety authorized in the red wines of the Loire Valley. In appellations: Chinon, Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil, Saumur-Champigny, etc.
It is majority in many wines from Libournais (Bordeaux Rive Droite).
In Saint-Emilion appellation, it is half blended with Merlot.

Did you know?
This grape variety is mainly present in some very classified grand crus of Saint-Emilion, in the famous Château Cheval-Blanc and Château Ausone. Also at Chateau Haut-Brion.
