Château Ausone, Saint Emilion 1er Grand Cru classé A, Bordeaux, 2006, Original Wooden Case of 3 Bottles of 75 cl
"The jewel of the estate, Château Ausone is a work of finesse and elegance. Cathedral-like, it first presents a powerful and mineral profile of Cabernet Franc."
On the place called Roc Blancan, literally the “white rock”, the Ausone estate has settled on the hillside. A mineral theater slowly sculpted by man: for two millennia, life, like the vine, has chosen stone to settle.
Château AusoneChâteau Ausone is part of the "top 9" of the classification of First Growths along with the châteaux Lafite, Mouton, Latour, Margaux, Haut Brion, Cheval Blanc, Petrus, and Yquem. Each of these estates produces legendary wines. They form the elite of Bordeaux wines, of France, and certainly, of the World!
For discerning enthusiasts, the other wines of Alain Vauthier, the Château de Fonbel and the Château Moulin Saint-Georges, are true delights!![]()

About the estate
This is a family memory whose first traces date back to 1680, and whose current descendant, Alain Vauthier has been the manager and owner since 1990.
This is a unique terroir, located at the top of a slope, on the limestone plateau and the clay-limestone slope of Saint-Emilion, which extends over 7 hectares around the castle.
This is a vineyard whose existence has been documented since 1592, which never freezes and benefits from a very favorable and stable microclimate.
Remarkable for its consistent quality, this vineyard is composed of two grape varieties mainly distinguished by 55% Cabernet franc and about 45% Merlot. The average age of the vines is around fifty years, and the wine is aged for about 20 months in oak barrels in the castle's cellars.
Historically, all first growths of Bordeaux are exported to Europe, the United States, and currently to Asia.
AOC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, "Premier Grand Cru classé A", Château Ausone is no exception to this rule.
A limited production of 15,000 to 20,000 bottles per year makes it one of the most sought-after Bordeaux wines internationally. Only 5 to 10% of its marketing remains on the French market, particularly in futures through the Bordeaux trade.
It should be noted that the second wine of the estate "Chapelle d’Ausone" is produced at a rate of 4000 to 10,000 bottles.
In 2014, Alain Vauthier acquired a classified growth from Saint-Emilion, Château La Clotte, a property that extends over nearly 4 hectares of vines and adds to the other wine estates.
Currently, Mr. Vauthier does not plan any other investments.
A beautiful potential harvest, magnificent grapes, the 2018 vintage Château AUSONE proves to be very promising.
Let us wish the lovers of this mythical wine many centuries of tastings to come, and who knows? to join the memory of the poet, whose prose reveals an invitation to withdraw from the world, which resonates so much with rare moments and so "close to the heavens".

History of the estate
Château Ausone owes its name to Ausone, a poet, teacher, and political advisor of the Late Roman Empire born in Bordeaux in the year 309. Since the Middle Ages, only 3 lineages have succeeded each other at Château Ausone: the Lescours, the Chatonnet, and the Vauthier. At the end of the 1990s, Alain Vauthier took full control of the property. His daughter Pauline Vauthier joined him in 2005 and it is the famous Michel Rolland who advises the property.
A charming property, nestled under the medieval walls of Saint-Emilion, Château Ausone benefits from a unique terroir and produces particularly concentrated and very intense wines marked by very typical mineral notes. Château Ausone is the only estate, along with Château Cheval Blanc, to be classified 1er Grand Cru Classé A in 1959.
The 7-hectare vineyard of Château Ausone is located at the southern gates of the medieval city of Saint Emilion. The vines planted with Cabernet Franc and Merlot are spread over the limestone plateau and on the clay-limestone slopes that are perfectly exposed and protected from the winds, a particular micro-climate ideal for vine cultivation.
