The History of Domaine Jean Macle
"This family estate from Jura was created in 1850 in Château-Chalon. Its vines are planted on terroirs that are among the steepest of the appellation, with nearly 50% slope in places.
It took the perseverance and talent of several generations of Jura winemakers to elevate the wines of this difficult terroir to a very high level of quality. The winemaker Jean Macle, who passed away in 2021, devoted all his energy to it. He took over the farm in mixed farming in the 1960s, at the head of one and a half hectares of vines.
Laurent Macle and his wife Elyane significantly expanded their vineyard to 12 hectares, including 4 hectares of AOC Château-chalon and 8 hectares in Côtes-du-Jura. Their son Laurent Macle, representing the sixth generation, worked at the estate with his father until 2003, the year he took over the operation.
The vines are cultivated without insecticides, anti-rotting agents, or systemic products. As for the wines, they are aged in oak barrels, under a veil of yeast, after undergoing their alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in tanks."

About the cuvée
"A prominent figure in the Jura vineyard, Jean Macle left us two years ago. Tasting a château-chalon from the estate bearing his name is an experience of particular intensity. A true “yellow”, straight, sharp, harmonious, and digestible, whose complexity arises not only from aging under yeast veil. Today, in the expert hands of Laurent Macle, this estate navigates the vintages with such consistency and identity that it commands universal respect. Established in 1850, it has some of the steepest terroirs of the appellation, reaching slopes of up to 50%. The choice to plant vines on lands where no one, at a certain time, wanted to venture underscores the determination and passion of this winemaking family, which has become consubstantial to the Château-Chalon vineyard."
