Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas 2017 Red Rhône 75cl

"The wines from this estate strongly and convincingly represent a traditional vision, in the best sense of the term, of the Cornas appellation. Thanks to a fabulous heritage of vines and a simple and intelligent approach to vinification, Pierre, accompanied by his son Olivier, continues, in the lineage of his father Auguste Clape, to produce wines that are upright and refined, which stand out as references, in the appellation and throughout the northern Rhône Valley. Here, whole cluster vinifications and aging in old foudres are favored; this results in wines that are restrained, defying the years and expressing the terroir of Cornas brilliantly. A model for the appellation."

Tasting

"Plenty of sexy graphite and dark stony aromas cast across showy dark fruits seen here, all presented in a vibrant and seductive form. Plenty of spices and fragrant lift, too. The palate is astonishingly rich, layered and seamlessly complete. The tannins are dense, compressed and commanding, whereas the tension is entrancing. Flavors run from red to darker fruits. The finish is already long and majestic. Exceptional wine. Barrel sample."
Note: 98-99/100
