Domaine Alain Voge The Old Vines Cornas 2020 Red Rhône 75cl
The entire estate is cultivated organically and biodynamically.
« Domaine Alain Voge represents for me one of the Great Estates of the Rhône Valley. It has managed to extract the quintessence of the Cornas terroir, with Syrah that has silky, deep, and refined textures, which allows me to propose a perfect pairing with this Sologne wild venison, a fine and juicy meat, that will showcase the cuvée Les Chailles in the best possible way. »
THE CHEF : Jean-François Piège, restaurant Le Grand Restaurant, Paris 8e.
THE PLATE :
Hare à la Royale
“Game in general and more particularly hare is a product that pairs perfectly with Mr. Voge's Cornas. I propose this version of hare à la Royale, with the loin stuffed with foie gras and a compote linked to the blood with the rest of the animal. The Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes with a few years of aging is a beautiful match, with notes of leather, pepper, and present and delicate tannins.”THE CHEF: Thomas Ponson, restaurant Thomas, Lyon 2e

ABOUT THE CUVÉE LES VIEILLES VIGNES
Our great classic. It is the oldest cuvée of the Domaine, created in the 1970s to enhance the old family vineyard. The vines of this cuvée are located in the heart of the appellation facing our first replantings. Les Vieilles Vignes is the mirror of our history and our know-how.
TERROIR
Located on hillsides at about 200 meters altitude, with a south/southeast exposure, the vines of our great classic have an average age of 60 years. They are deeply rooted in very weathered old granites, locally called gores.
VINTAGE 2019
For the third consecutive year, the season was hot and dry, although less early than the previous two. The water deficit and heatwaves that hindered ripening in some sensitive plots were, however, compensated by two nice rains at the end of the season. Light powdery mildew pressure across the vineyard. We observe an excellent performance of the historic terroir of Saint-Péray (old Marsannes on clay-limestone soil) in these heatwave conditions. In the end, the quality of the harvest was very good, the quantities were consistent, and the vinifications produced very beautiful juices...
