Domaine Alain Voge Les Chailles Cornas 2020 Red Rhône 75cl
« Domaine Alain Voge represents for me one of the Great Estates of the Rhône Valley. It has managed to extract the quintessence of the Cornas terroir, with Syrah that has silky, deep, and refined textures, which allows me to propose a perfect pairing with this Sologne wild venison, a fine and juicy meat, that will showcase the cuvée Les Chailles in the best possible way. »

ABOUT THE CUVÉE
Named with the 2003 vintage, this cuvée had no name before. It was simply our 'generic' cuvée. A blend of several lieux-dits, it is an entry point to discover the estate and Syrah in Cornas. To reach its fullness, Les Chailles will require fewer years of aging than our other Cornas cuvées.
TERROIR
Syrah vines aged around forty years. Feet of the granitic hillsides of Cornas, with soils more fertile than at higher elevations, giving the vine vigor and slightly higher yields. The proximity of the limestone massif of the Arlettes to the north explains the presence of particular siliceous concretions from the Triassic called chailles.
VINTAGE 2019
For the third consecutive year, the season was hot and dry, although less early than the previous two. The water deficit and heatwaves that hindered ripening on some sensitive plots were, however, compensated by 2 nice rains at the end of the season. Light powdery mildew pressure across the vineyard. We observe an excellent performance of the historic terroir of Saint-Péray (old Marsanne on clay-limestone soil) in these heatwave conditions. In the end, the quality of the harvest was very good, the quantities were consistent, and the vinifications produced very beautiful juices.
