Tasting

"A lot of fruit even though the nose needs a bit of oxygenation to reveal it. Notes of aging, praline, and floral notes. The palate is indulgent and very fine, truly the Margaux style both in its underlying power and its feminine character!

A bottle for long aging for sure!

About the cuvée

What a destiny for this 4-hectare plot! Initially classified as AOC Haut-médoc, a revision of its classification has "promoted" it to AOC Margaux starting from the 2007 vintage. Its terroir is quite remarkable, conforming to AOC Margaux and particularly from the Bel-Air-Monbrison plateau. Thus, the very gravelly soils on deep yellow clay are perfectly suited for high-quality viticulture.

Our Margaux is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Its aging lasts 1 year with a proportion of new wood ranging from 30 to 40%. Indeed, the beautiful structure conferred by the high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon requires softening. Our greatest achievement, however, is to produce a wine with a beautiful acidity, with ripe black fruits but also very often in a floral register, sometimes even spicy.

About the vintage

Conventional or organic viticulture, all winemakers hope for a lot from a new vintage. After 2017, which was frost-prone, 2018, despite the enchantment of the quality achieved, was not very generous. A half-harvest at Mille Roses, but a sun that sublimated the little that remained on the vine.

2019! We avoided the disaster of the 2 episodes of spring frost, hope is allowed for a real harvest! But beware! A double challenge this year: managing with allowed copper doses reduced by 33%! The difficult flowering, numerous rainy episodes, the level of treatment required seemed unattainable, yet we managed to keep our treatments below the European requirement, stopping treatments almost at the beginning of July. The magnificent summer, withering our grapes, rewarded us with some rain at the right time, reconciling quality and quantity for an exceptional result. Thank you 2019! We needed it but also really wanted it!

About the estate

Our work as winemakers is somewhat about simply revealing the terroir effect to give typicity to our wine. Our management of the vine and our know-how in the cellar should not stifle the authenticity of the wine; this is the whole difference with certain wines where excessive human intervention standardizes the products.

Our terroir is sandy-gravelly in nature. It is formed of gravel mounds. The Garonne gravel deposits (a mix of rolled pebbles and sands) left by the retreat of glaciers during the Quaternary period, provide character to our wines and precisely manage, through their filtering nature and gentle slope, the water needs of the vine. Thus, the water stress necessary for good maturation is not excessive. The balance starts from the soil!

Moreover, the large presence of light-colored pebbles allows for both reflecting sunlight during the day and releasing the stored heat at night.

Our Haut-Médoc vineyard consists of 4 plots around the Château, in the municipality of Macau. The vines are located between two classified growths: Château Giscours and Château Cantemerle.

• Merlot : 2.7 ha
• Cabernet Sauvignon : 2.2 ha
• Petit Verdot : 0.6 ha

We produce on the terroirs of the AOC Margaux on a large plot of 4 ha, not far from the vineyards of Château Giscours, Château Monbrison, and Château d’Angludet. This is the plateau of Arsac, the southern fringe of the Margaux vineyard.

• Cabernet Sauvignon : 2.2 ha
• Merlot : 1.8 ha
