About the estate and the terroir

Terroir
The terroir of Léoville Barton is located on one of the most beautiful gravel rises of the Garonne, facing the Gironde, in the heart of the Saint Julien appellation, in the Médoc, 40 km north of Bordeaux. The different heights of gravel left by the river characterize the terroir of Léoville Barton, which, combined with the History and the people who shape it, gives birth to one of the greatest red wines in the world. The clay-gravel subsoil wonderfully regulates the climatic variations of the year.

Grape Variety
The 50 hectares of Château Léoville Barton, planted in a gravelly soil over a clay subsoil, include a strong proportion of old vines to achieve the best possible quality. The grape variety distribution is 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. These are the traditional grape varieties of the Médoc.
