Tasting

A Champagne with intense expression
APPEARANCE

Slightly golden color with fine lively bubbles.

NOSE

Aromas of blooming flowers, ripe citrus, and dried fruits, almond paste, and gingerbread.

PALATE

The palate reveals flavors of almond paste, hazelnuts, nougat, quince, lemon, limoncello, and dried fruits.

Julie Cavil
Cellar Master, Krug

"On the palate, this Champagne evokes a ribbon of beige silk, where the aromatic expression of saffron, ground coffee, and mandarin zest awakens flavors of dried white mirabelles, toasted bread, and Meyer lemon zest. Long and elegant on a finish where honey, spices, and a smoky taste mingle."
Wine Spectator 2020: 95/100

About the Krug house

Krug Grande Cuvée is the iconic signature of the House of Krug. Since 1843, Krug Grande Cuvée embodies what Joseph Krug, founder of the House of Krug, sought to offer his clients: a Champagne of great richness and fine elegance, beyond vintages.

Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of a man, Joseph Krug, who wanted to create the best Champagne possible each year, regardless of annual climatic variations. Every year, the House of Krug honors the dream of its founder with a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Krug Champagne.

About the Krug Grande Cuvée 170th Edition

Every year, since the founding of the House of Krug, a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is created to offer the most generous expression of Champagne Krug.

This bottle belongs to the 170th Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, a blend of 195 wines from 12 different years. The youngest dates from 2014 and the oldest goes back to 1998. An aging of about seven years in our cellars gives it its particularly unique expression and elegance. Each glass contains the fruit of over 20 years of in-depth expertise.

Krug Grande Cuvée 170th Edition is composed around the harvest of 2014, a year with capricious weather conditions, oscillating between cool and warm periods with marked episodes of rain and drought. The wines developed in good conditions, which ensured us a generous harvest. This contrasting climate preserved their freshness, and we were able to observe great heterogeneity throughout the region, highlighting the importance of the House's plot-by-plot approach.

To create this edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the cellar master wanted to enhance the diversity of the delicate aromatic expressions of this year through reserve wines from several plots and 11 different years. The special attention given to the vines, as well as the exceptional respect for the characteristics of each plot, favored the amplitude of expression unique to this edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

In total, the reserve wines from the vast wine library of the House represent 45% of the final blend and ensure the amplitude and roundness essential to each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
