Champagne Krug, Grande Cuvée 166th Edition, Brut, 150cl

Krug Grande Cuvée is the iconic signature of the Krug House. Since 1843, Krug Grande Cuvée embodies what Joseph Krug, the founder of the Krug House, sought to offer his clients: a Champagne of great richness and fine elegance, beyond the vintages.

Tasting

Visually, this Champagne is adorned with a pale gold hue and moves with fine, lively bubbles, promises of incomparable pleasure.

Aromas of flowers, ripe citrus, candied and dried fruits, as well as almond paste and gingerbread stimulate the nose.

Notes of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, fruits, and citrus jelly, almonds, brioche, and honey explode in the mouth.

"On the palate, this Champagne evokes a ribbon of beige silk, where the aromatic expression of saffron, ground coffee, and mandarin zest awakens flavors of dried white mirabelles, toasted bread, and Meyer lemon zest. Long and elegant on a finish where honey, spices, and a smoky taste mingle."
Wine Spectator 2020: 95/100

About the Krug Grande Cuvée 166th Edition

Every year, since the founding of the House of Krug, a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is created to offer the most generous expression of Champagne Krug.

Krug Grande Cuvée 166th Edition was created around the harvest of 2010. Despite very tumultuous weather, the grapes developed promisingly, until cooler weather at the end of the season raised some concerns. The special attention given to the vines during this delicate period and the respect for the unique character of each plot nevertheless ensured a healthy harvest at perfect maturity. The unconventional approach of the House of Krug in creating the Champagne led to compensating for the unusual lack of freshness in the Chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs with the liveliness of the Meuniers from that year, particularly those from Saint Gemme and Courmas.

The blend consists of 42% carefully selected reserve wines, including wines from the year 2000 for their remarkable structure and others from Oger for their generous roundness. The wines from 2006 from Verzy and Bouzy add the finishing touch to this blend and provide the essential harmony to each Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of a man, Joseph Krug, who wanted to create the best Champagne possible each year, regardless of annual climatic variations. Every year, the House of Krug honors the dream of its founder with a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Krug Champagne.
